Thank you so much for posting this. I live in Australia and the news of Pilger’s passing was reported in a tone of embarrassment by the media here...it was like they had forgotten about him, like an elderly relative left to waste away in an old folks’ home. It must be awkward for them, as state propagandists, to be confronted with an actual journalist like Pilger. The regime here continues to pearl clutch about the ‘threat from China’ whilst doubling down on legislation to silence any dissent from Australian citizens. Pilger knew what the ugly reality of Australia is, that underneath the shiny surface it is a deeply authoritarian and nasty place to anyone who dares to question.
Thank you dear Lady of Shalott for expressing so very well your experience of John Pilger's passing as transmitted through the controlled media.
John Pilger also knew well the ugly reality of the UK and the U.S. along along with other nation states posing as democracies where many of us reside. The iron clamp of censorship is also being pushed through here in the UK under the guise of allegedly protecting children online. The first draft was called the Online Harms Bill which then became the Online Safety Bill. There were a few other related 'bills" giving the police and other government funded entities more powers as well.
We are most certainly all in this together. It's lovely to meet you here.
Thank you for your lovely welcome! I’ve been a subscriber for some time but really felt moved to comment on your excellent article on Pilger. As you rightly say, he was acutely aware that the U.K. and Australia have become satellite states of the ‘Global American Empire’. The ‘five eyes’ (the U.K., Australia, Canada, New Zealand and America) all in step on absolutely everything. All equal except that ‘some are more equal than others’ as Orwell wrote in ‘Animal Farm’! Australia has it’s very own Online Safety Act, just like the one in the U.K. and the atrocious Hate Speech legislation in Ireland. We even have our very own eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman-Grant, an American graduate of the WEF who is being paid a fortune by the Australian government to try and kick people like us off the internet. She talks about wanting to go after ‘revenge porn’ but really it’s dissent she wants to shut down. It’s always gauged in terms of ‘safeguarding’ but it’s all about silencing us. We really are all in the same dreadful boat as you say.
Once again you have encapsulated the Orwellian censorship agenda incredibly well as connected through the "five eyes." The vile nanny police state always presents restrictions as something that is "good" for us and/or will protect others. "Safeguarding" is most definitely in their must use crib notes.
Yes indeed, here in Ireland they tried to get an online ‘hate’ speech legislation through but it met with enough push back that it delayed things. Push back is essential and it’s through people speaking out. I am old enough not to care what people think but my late 30’s son cringes when I do. The younger ones still have all that self consciousness and don’t really understand what has already been lost.
100 percent true. Prison guards and free settlers - people that came here and complied. There has always been a history of very strong policing in Australia also. Australia did a very good PR job on itself, telling the rest of the world that it was an easy going, relaxed country of surfers and barbecues and Crocodile Dundee types. The ugly reality is what you saw in sharp focus during the Covid lockdowns.
A huge loss. I am grateful for his choices in life, whereby he educated me and many others about the most important things, things schools and universities, and most parents, would never teach us. May his courage and light be infectious.
Bless you dear Tamaki. I am so very sorry that you lost your father recently. My heart-felt compassion goes out to you. 🙏 I lost my Dad in November 2015.
It's terribly sad that John Pilger has left this earth plane. We are fortunate that he left his indelible mark with his large body of work.
Earlier, I watched one of his interviews on YT, regarding how journalists are just parroting the government propaganda and not seeking the truth, for the people. I didn't know he'd died until I read your post just now. He will certainly be missed.
Hello Markker, that sounds like an interesting video with John Pilger speaking the truth about how the controlled "news" organisations operate. I would love to watch it if you are able to share the link to it.
Whereas the nogoodniks who prefer to control information will be happy that John Pilger is gone, for the many people like us, who value hims and mourn is loss, he has left a legacy of his wonderful work through which he will continue to leave his voiceprint. 🙏
I've had a look through my webpage history and it's not appearing. Also did a search on YT and nothing. It appeared in the right hand column when watching something else which I can't remember what! I will try and find it for you.
This is the most important article I have ever read . I live in Namibia. we are on the cusp of an oil discovery. I have read everything John Pilger ever wrote. This does not bode well? The Chinas are here in uranium already. They seem honourable. We are naive Africans. Sorry that this is so disjointed and unstructured but it feels like I've lost a family member. I have to remain optimistic that he shed so much light. RIP with love.
Bless you dear Clare. Thank you for your comment. There is absolutely no need to apologise. As I mentioned in this post, I cried when I heard that John Pilger had passed away. I truly admire him.
I imagine that many of the "good" journalists these days, who are true of heart and intention, have been inspired by John Pilger's remarkable work.
In this report which is mostly behind the paywall they state that [Royal Dutch] "Shell and [French firm] TotalEnergies have discovered at least 11 billion barrels of light oil and up to 8.7 trillion cubic feet of gas in Namibia’s prolific Orange basin over the past 18 months, according to top petroleum officials in the country.
Do you have friends where you live who are awake like you that you can discuss things with? It makes all the difference to be able talk about things, even if it is just one person.
We do have a very awake community here, thankfully. I run a 400+ strong interest group which is across ages and races and professions, and I am always so incredibly amazed and encouraged by the intellect and curiosity and integrity of Namibians on the ground. It's just the spin and the bling that puts the 'few' fat cats in the limelight and they who shout loudest tend to set the path, sadly. This tiny country has the opportunity to be the role model for the work if we can just do the right thing. The green hydrogen hype haws gone off the wall and as you can imagine, much money is changing hands. And again, the 'developed' world is on the off take, and the 'loans' and we are left with the debt, for future generations ... Wish us well.

Thanks, Azra, for the article. If not you, I would have missed it.
Combined with the loss of my father in November, 2023 turned out to be very sad year. Pilger has gone when probably he was needed the most.

Thank you for your kind words, Azra.
Yes, John Pilger is a huge loss for all of us. Yet we still have you and other great journalists.
Thanks again for your work.
Thank you for this. All of you speaking out, for truth and humanity are truly appreciated. God Bless you.
Bless you Good, True & Beautiful. 🙏 You are one and we are all doing what we can to co-create a better world for future generations, and ourselves.
