On 2nd January 1689, William summoned a Convention Parliament which decided, through a Whig majority, that the throne was vacant and it would be safer to allow a Protestant to assume the role. William successfully ascended the throne as William III of England with his wife Mary II, who reigned as joint sovereigns until her death in December 1694. After Mary’s death William became the sole ruler and monarch. William of Orange had passion. That was to defeat the Catholic monarch in France. He needs capital to fulfill his dreams. The Bank of England-not created by any Stuart, or any Cromwell, steps in and loans money to him. This central bank, was. established in 1694 with the purpose of financing the indulgences of the ruling class. In William’s case, it was to loan money to fight the Catholic monarch of France though at a great cost to the country.
